My Role Model

I want to talk to you today about my Role Model. Everybody's got one, or at least everybody should have one. Somebody to look up to and to follow after their footsteps. A lot of people like to say their role model is one of the parents. You've seen your parents do whatever it takes to raise you and put food on the table. My mother was single mother and she did just that. She worked hard and did everything she could so that we would live great lives and grow up to be great people. Although my mother is one of my role models, she's not the main one.

Some people even have teachers as role models. I know it's hard for many of you to believe that since most of your teachers tortured you with an array of assignments with deadlines that you thought were insane. As hard as it is to imagine for some of you, teachers are role models too. They help you to challenge your brain, whether they mean to or not. Teachers mold us so that we can tackle situations head on. I've had many teachers throughout the years that helped me, challenged me. So many of them gave me encouragement when I didn't even want to hear their voice. Although my teachers played an important role in my life, none of them is my main role model.

My role model? Well my role model is special. He's been my role model since I was young. I had a type of appreciation for my role model that others at my age probably wouldn't have. We always hung out and talk. The best thing is we still do. He's still helping me out here and there, and still encouraging me to do good.

My role model has got to be the best there is. All of you know of Him. After all, He's a pretty popular guy. Let me see if I could tell you a little about Him. My role model was born in a manger so He wouldn't be killed by a king. He was so special then that three wise men came to adore Him. He always kept a cool temper, well accept that one time when people tried to disrespect His father, boy that wasn't pretty. There was another time when He walked on water. I don't care what any of you guys say; unless you share the same role model as me, your role model won't be doing any water walking. Did that give it away? Fine, my role model is Jesus.

He's my role model because I want to be just like Him. He put aside all selfish reasons, came down here to this filthy earth and decided that He'll die for you and me. That's something isn't it? What's great about it too is that although He was a big shot, He didn't even act like it. He didn't belittle anybody that was around Him. Talk about charisma, He had an abundance of it. People were easily drawn to Him and did whatever it took to get to Him; ask the lady that touched His garment by the lake. He's so great that although there was a crowd of people all around Him and the disciples touching Him, He noticed just one touch.

I want to be like Jesus. There's many reasons, but one reason that I could think about now is the fact that He notices every single person no matter how big the crowd is. I want to be able to notice the people around me so that I can have an impact on their lives, and help lead them to the cross.
